The two time defending ladies' champion Williams meets Kateryna Bondarenko of the Ukraine on Court One at 1:00pm London time. The 73rd ranked Bondarenko lost to Williams 6-4, 6-2 in the Stuttgart round of sixteen last year in their only prior career meeting.
Williams raced through her first round singles match Tuesday 6-3, 6-2 and is also entered in the doubles competition with her sister Serena Williams, ranked second in the world. The Williams sisters claimed the Wimbledon doubles title in 2000, 2002 and last year.
Williams took the Wimbledon singles title in 2000, 2001 before finishing as runner up to Serena in 2002 and 2003. The American rebounded to take singles titles in 2005, 2007 and 2008 and holds several records in ladies' competition at Wimbledon.
In the 2005 championship match versus her fellow American Lindsay Davenport, Williams played and won the longest ever ladies' singles match 4-6, 7-6(7-4), 9-7 after two hours and forty-five minutes. Two years later with her 2007 title win, Williams become the lowest female seed (23rd ) and the lowest ranked female player (31st) to ever win the singles title.
Last year Williams, the fastest server of the WTA Tour, hit a Wimbledon ladies' record 129 miles per hour serve. Williams' fastest serve ever is 130 miles per hour.
In the third round this weekend, Williams could meet the 34th ranked Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain who defeated Williams in January in a surprise win at the Australian Open's second round 2-6, 6-3, 7-5.
